Bo's Surgery Day

On Tuesday April 7th we headed to Primary Children's Hospital for Bo's Hydrocele/Hernia Surgery. It wasn't a huge deal, the surgery was about an hour long, they just had to stitch up his hernia, and his hydrocele, but to me it was a major deal!
Hydrocele's are really common, 90% of all boys get them without parents ever knowing because they heal themselves before they realize something is going on. Bo's didn't heal on it's own. On top of that, he had a little hernia that needed a stitch or two.
Bo couldn't eat anything but clear liquids after Midnight on Monday, and after 10:30 am on Tuesday he couldn't have anything in his mouth! We had to be to the hospital at 12:00. I was a nervous wreck all morning trying to get ready to go. Finally, we got in the car and started for the hospital. I wasn't paying attention to my speed, and I guess I got going a little fast, and of course, I got pulled over! Yes, I got a ticket! LAME!

Finally, we got to the hospital, and got all checked in. Here is Bo waiting for more instructions. He was such a good boy!
They gave us his little hospital scrubs to put him in, and I don't know why, but this little picture just broke my heart! I didn't like seeing my baby dressed for surgery!

I am pretty sure, Bo didn't mind at all! However, we couldn't just go to the hospital and have our surgery, Bo had to break out in this funky rash the week before. I took him to our pediatrician twice before his surgery, and no one could tell me what it was. So, when we got to the hospital, it was a freak show. EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE had to come see this strange rash. It is just on his right side, it's not affecting him at all, but it looks horrible! We had the Dr. come look, the anesthesiologist, the nurses, other Dr., pediatric specialists, etc. And, to make things worse, because they couldn't tell what the rash was, they quarantined us in our little room. We couldn't go wait in the waiting room with the other kids and all the toys! I was nervous Bo would freak out, but he did really well!

He really hated the little bracelet thing that tagged him with his information, so the nurse came in and cut it off of him and put this clear sticker thing on his back with all his info.

You can't really see it, but it looks like his name and birthday is tattooed on his back!

We waited for 2 1/2 hours in that little room for his turn. Since Bo couldn't eat, I couldn't eat, and let me tell you, by 2:30, we were all starving! But he didn't have one meltdown!

Finally, it was time for his surgery. The nurse came in and gave him a sedative to help relax him so he would go with the Dr. without crying. I wish they would have given me one! I lost it! I made them promise me they would take good care of my baby, and then I just stood in the hall crying after they took him away. Not just crying, sobbing! That was the worst feeling I have ever felt in my entire life, and I hope I don't ever have to feel that way again. It took me forever to get my composure. I'm sure the other parents probably thought my child was terminal, and going in for a life or death surgery! If they had only known what we were really there for, they would have thought I was a freak! Well, the surgery went great, no problems, my boy is all fixed, and he did fantastic! He's been a little sore, but for the most part he's been such a trooper! I am so glad that is over and behind us!

Here is my little champ after his surgery. A little sad, but after the slushy and some crackers he was ready to go! I love you Bo Baby!!

Hey Holly. Bo looks so cute in that little hospital gown. What a cutie. Did they find out what the rash was? I bet that was hard seeing him go in there.
